Paris may be known as the city of light but Los Angeles is truly the city of sunsets. Every evening just before setting, the sun glitters on the Pacific and bathes the LA basin in a warm glow. It is this glow that Southern California artists have been chasing for generations.

Eric Rodriguez’s paintings lie at the aesthetic intersection of Europe’s style and California’s aura. They evoke Edgar Degas and Henri De Toulouse-Lautrec in the elegant beauty of their subjects. This beauty is filtered through a uniquely California lens in its suggestion of fashion and grandeur.

He should know. Originally from Los Angeles, he is the drummer and vocalist for the LA-based band Nail Polish where he brings that grandeur to his music as well. He told Laser Angel that he was magnetically attracted to the impressionists when he started painting . “Something about the loose/flowy brushstrokes really captivated me,” he said. It’s this captivation that comes through in all of his creative works and what drew us to him.
